book series, Cristin Harber, fangirl, military romantic suspense, Romantic Suspense, Titan

With the weather being a horrible, stormy mess lately I have not been able to stand looking at a computer screen, but I have been able to handle a Kindle (yay old school Kindle Keyboard!), and last week I discovered a new to me, awesome author in Cristin Harber.  Girlfriend can write an alpha man, lemme tell ya, and her heroines are badasses in their own right, putting the Titan series right up there with my favorite Romantic Suspense series’ of all time.

In order, with blurbs since I am not a good reviewer nor do I like giving synopses.  I will say that while I’m sure you could enjoy them out of order or separately, reading in order is best.  And Book 6, Savage Secrets is not kidding when it says there are violent (well, more violent than others) scenes and I will admit to bawling crying.  Oh, and Book 1, Winter’s Heat and Book 1.5 Sweet Girl (prequel to Book 2, Garrison’s Creed) are FREE!!!

After putting her life on the line to protect classified intelligence, military psychologist Mia Kensington is on a cross-country road trip from hell with an intrusive save-the-day hero. Uninterested in his white knight act, she’d rather take her chances without the ruggedly handsome, cold-blooded operative who boasts an alpha complex and too many guns.

Colby Winters, an elite member of The Titan Group, has a single objective on his black ops mission: recover a document important to national security. It was supposed to be an easy in-and-out operation. But now, by any means necessary becomes a survival mantra when he faces off with a stunning woman he can’t leave behind.

When Titan’s safe houses are compromised, Colby stashes Mia at his home, exposing his secret—he’s the adoptive father of an orphaned baby girl. Too soon, danger arrives and Mia lands in the hands of a sadistic cartel king with a taste for torture. As hours bleed into fear-drenched days, Colby races across the globe and through a firestorm of bullets to save the woman he can’t live without.

Sometimes falling in love means going through hell.

Nicola Hart grew up under the heels of her older brother and his sexy best friend, Cash Garrison. Years of ignoring her spark with Cash has transformed their friendship into a slow burning sizzle. One night with him could ruin everything. Or it could be more than she ever dreamed. They play. They flirt. But they haven’t crossed the line because too much is at stake. Family. Friendship. And the deepest kind of love that she’d have to be crazy to walk away from.

She’s his best friend’s little sister. The definition of hands off. Cash has tried to ignore her for years. Those innocent eyes and her smile that screams kiss-me-if-you-dare… Instead, he’s looked at every pretty little thing who’s crossed his path, all to ignore the girl he seems destined to want. But when his hard partying ways get old and everyone at school is interested in Nicola, it’s time to stake a claim. To make Nicola his girl, no matter the risks, and hold the hand of the one he really loves.

A SPY RUNNING FOR HER LIFE
Nicola is an injured CIA agent on the run from a failed undercover operation. Her escape plan shatters when she slams into the man who buried her a decade ago. Cash Garrison. Her first and only love. Now, sexier than her best memory and cradling a sniper’s rifle, he has questions she can’t answer. Why was she alive? And armed?

AND THE MAN SHE COULD NEVER SEE AGAIN

Cash is an elite member of a black ops organization, The Titan Group. He thought Nicola died his senior year of college and swore off love to focus on a decade of military missions. But when she shows up behind enemy lines, bleeding out and wielding a weapon, his heart and mind are unsure how to proceed.

BATTLE BETRAYAL TO SAVE THEMSELVES
Titan and the CIA join forces to uncover a mole hidden in a network of international terrorists and homegrown mobsters, teaming Cash and Nicola again. They fight old wounds and re-ignite sparks while closing in on a double agent. When disaster strikes, Nicola’s hidden past makes her the hunted target and Cash’s best kill shot may not be enough to save them.

THE MASTER OF EVERYTHING HAS FOUND HIS MATCH
Jared Westin knows his reputation and likes it. He gets the job done. No emotion. No baggage. That’s why his elite ops company, The Titan Group, is better than the best. They complete projects classified as mission impossible.

And then, in walks a woman as tough as she is sexy. His counterpart in every way, should he choose to admit it.

SHE’S NOT WILLING TO LET HER HEART FALL
Ousted undercover ATF agent Lilly Chase only answers to “Sugar.” Jared is the only man who can see past her leather-and-lipstick demeanor, and that revelation is terrifying. She was fired for helping Titan on a questionable arrest she should’ve ignored, then partnered with Jared’s rival on an assignment in Afghanistan.

Distance and danger do nothing to change her feelings. When she’s left on the side of a mountain to die, an unexpected ally comes forward, and might open her heart.

THE STAKES COULDN’T BE HIGHER
Saving Sugar isn’t a normal rescue operation. It pits Titan against its rival, Jared against his nemesis. Chasing Sugar’s heart isn’t a simple task, either. She fights him, fights them, always ready to run. When she becomes a pawn in a game of collateral damage, Jared must risk his life to save her—the woman whose bravado and surprising sweetness has given him the one thing he never had. Love.

Brock Gamble’s epic fall from the Titan Group labeled him a traitor. He betrayed his men. He failed his family. And when he thought he’d hit the lowest point, his wife walked out with their children, leaving him alone to drown himself in the bottle.

Surviving an abduction didn’t end the nightmare for Sarah Gamble. The aftershocks of post-traumatic stress disorder hit her hard. Self-doubt and confusion. Anger and hurt. Running away was an easy escape until Brock shows up on her doorstep offering a trip to paradise and a promise to fix their marriage.

Before the couple can search for answers, Brock is pulled back into the very world that Sarah is so scared of—kidnapping, cartels, and guns—and the stakes are too high for either one of them to ignore.

Jenny Chase has loved Asher McIntyre, her best friend’s older brother, since she first laid eyes on him. But their flirting over the years never progressed as well as his career. He’s the Asher McIntyre, Mr. Rising Star Politician, the congressman who is soon to be the senator to New York State. He holds a spot on every magazine’s most handsome, most powerful, and most unattainable list. All while Jenny has followed her acting dream, waiting for her big break.

Asher McIntyre has never had time for a serious relationship. Work is too demanding. But he’s also never stopped thinking about Jenny. When a stalker with a political agenda focuses on her, Asher can’t play the role of disinterested buddy any longer. The sparks are too strong, and his alpha gene is provoked. He wants her under his arm and in his bed.

But can two hearts on opposite career paths survive while Asher’s enemy seeks to take them both down?

**Adult audiences: book includes violent scenes**

Caterina Cruz has no home. No loyalties. No objection to exacting torturous revenge. Her life’s mission is to destroy the terrorist who murdered her family. Then she steps into an elaborate game of charades alongside a Titan Group operative posing as an arms dealer—and her newlywed husband. The sexy distraction may be more than she can handle.

Attacked with a psychedelic drug weeks before, Rocco Savage is plagued with hallucinations that threaten his new rank as Titan’s second-in-command. No one knows and he wants to keep it that way. Throwing him further off his game, he now has a wife with her own secrets he can’t crack and an agenda he can’t control.

Their mission—an elaborate deception of heated glances and passionate kisses—spins out of control. With Rocco’s mind already compromised, can he keep his secret and his distance? And with Caterina’s tragic past controlling her every move, can she keep the con up long enough to secure her revenge? Or will both go down in flames?

So, yeah, this has been a post of Hayden fangirling, and nothing else.  Hey, sometimes a girl’s just gotta be a fangirl, right?

An interview, a guest post, and a snippet walk into a bar…

No, really, this week I was interviewed by Kame and The Book Queen, so if you want to know more about me, check that out here:

I also guest blogged at Just Romantic Suspense, talking about my books and how Haleigh is giving me fits so LIVE FOR ME isn’t finished yet.  I hate that I missed my intended release date, but I’d much rather give you the story Haleigh and Caleb want to tell instead of something forced and, well, crappy.  Check that post out here:

And, since it’s Wednesday, a snippet from BURN!

Burn Cover

“Sister mine, you’ve got classic abandonment issues. I personally think Nate’s a great guy, and, good Lord is he beautiful, so I say go for it.”

“Tell me again why you dropped out of school?” Belle asked, letting what her sister said roll around in her head. Claire knew her so well, and was the only person who would would dare bring up Mitchell Baxter’s death in her presence. Nate was right when he’d challenged her. She’d be a mess if something happened to him whether or not they were dating, even if she ran away to Australia and never saw him again. So, why not try? Good Lord, she wanted to try. But if he got tired of her, where would she be?

“I didn’t drop out. I took a break.”

“For five years?”

Claire pinned her with a chastising look. “Shut-up. I love my shop.”

Despite Claire’s extended break from school, Belle knew her sister lived to brighten people’s days with flowers. “I know, I’m just giving you hell.” She sat on Claire’s cheery yellow couch. Why had she never noticed everything here was yellow? She sighed. The resistance she’d had to Nate wasn’t just about his heroics. “If I love him, and he leaves me…” she trailed off.

“What if he doesn’t? What if he’s your Forever?”

What a thought. “What if he’s not?”

erotic romance, romance, Romantic Suspense, sex, SPEEDING

Now that I have your attention… Hahaha.  No, really, I love sex–I dare say we all do–but I’m finding more and more that I have to read emotion with my sex, not sex for sex’s sake or just to make a book hotter.  If you notice, I only tell you about books (or book series) I have really enjoyed, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t read others in the mean time.  Yesterday I read what was billed as an erotic romantic suspense with BDSM elements, so of course I expected the sex to be hot, but the whole story took place over the course of three days.  I can believe lust in three days, I can believe in sex in a few hours, but from meeting and getting shot at on day one to undying eternal devotion on day three?  Yeah, not quite working for me.  That’s not to say this was a bad book, it really wasn’t, but the next books in the series will probably remain unread.

Of course, I’ve heard the same kind of stuff in reference to my own writing, so maybe I’m just being overly bitchy.  When the first few chapters of SPEEDING went up, I got an email that read, “It was awesome until this line: Tossing a fifty on the table, Reid picked Kendall up, wrapping her mile long legs around his waist, and walked them out of the restaurant. He carried her easily, never releasing her mouth for more than a breath, until he reached his truck.”  And another that read, “You know it must be love if there’s public sex involved.”  And, I’m not saying everyone should sleep together on the first date (much less in a parking lot against the side of a truck), but that’s what happened for Reid and Kendall.  *shrug*   At the same time, I feel like in the beginning it was lust and chemistry before it evolved into love.  Hell, I slept with my husband after our first date, so it wasn’t that big a stretch for me to relate to Kendall.

So….  That leads to the big question of the post.  What are *your* thoughts on sex  in a romance, erotic romance, etc?

Great Week for Reading

CODA, Contemporary Romance, Fool's Gold, Kendal Flynn, kindle, LOOSE CANNON, military romantic suspense, ONLY MINE, PLAYING DIRTY, reading, Romantic Suspense, Sisterhood Diaries, Susan Andersen, Susan Mallery

Wish that was how I was reading MY Kindle....

It was a great week for reading since it’s been too damn hot to do much of anything else.  So, aside from working, the normal family stuff, and attending the wedding of a good friend (and having weather-induced migraines), I’ve been reading.  And, since I know you’re dying to know what I’ve been reading, I’ll tell you.  (Hey, if you’re here, you must care at least a little bit ;P)

Tuesday was release day for two of my favorite authors, Susan Mallery and Susan Andersen.  Both were pre-orders and series books (yeah, yeah, we all know about my addiction).  The first one, ONLY MINE, is the fourth Fool’s Gold book by Susan Mallery (actually fifth if we count the novella Sister of the Bride).  I love Fool’s Gold, and think I’ll have some fun the next few months with the Hendrix triplets.  This book centers on Dakota Hendrix, who is reluctantly acting as liaison to a reality TV crew shooting a dating show in Fool’s Gold, and Finn Anderssen, an Alaskan pilot and incredibly overprotective big brother to his younger twin brothers.  Everything here is character-driven, and some of the same plot devices are used as in some of the other Fool’s Gold books, but I’ll say I still very much enjoy this series and have the others pre-ordered, too.

PLAYING DIRTY is the third of Susan Andersen’s Sisterhood Diaries trilogy.  Set in Seattle, this series is one I was hooked on from the beginning, and dearly love.  What I love the most about this series is the interplay between the three women of the Sisterhood, probably because I can see some of myself and my own girlfriends in each of the three of them.  If you haven’t read the first two, this book can stand alone, but you’re missing out on a lot of fun.  The first one, CUTTING LOOSE centers on Jane, the second, BENDING THE RULES, centers on Poppy, and this one, PLAYING DIRTY, centers on Ava.

Ava was the “fat girl” back in high school and although she is a beautiful, curvy size 12/14 now, the self-esteem issues linger, as well as the betrayal she felt when she found out Cade had slept with her to win a bet.  Now, 13 years later he wants to shoot a documentary in the mansion she inherited with her girlfriends Jane and Poppy, and he needs her and her concierge business to do it.  Yes, yes, we have all read a bunch of contemporary romance, so we know where this is going, but Susan did a wonderful job with it and there was a lot of heat and emotion here.  This was a great end to the series and Susan Andersen remains high on my “gotta buy it” list.

The next book I read was by a debut author, Kendal Flynn.  LOOSE CANNON is the first of a series revolving around a shadowy government agency, CODA (Counterintelligence Defense Agency), an agency so secret it doesn’t officially exist.  Here we have a total kickass heroine in Raeanne Springfield and a badass among badasses in her hero, Alex Dante.

Seven years ago Raeanne left CODA, and entered into civilian life believing she had been jilted by her lover, Alex.  She became a bodyguard to a senator and had a son.  Now, her son is kidnapped by a man she thought was dead, Alex is back in her life and everything goes to hell in a hand-basket real quick.  You know how I feel about spoilers and recaps, so I can’t tell you much more than that.  What I CAN tell you is I could hardly put this one down (I had to go to work and attend a wedding, but still finished it this morning when I started it yesterday).  There were times I wanted to smack Alex, and there are a lot of unanswered questions- I so want the sequel right now!- but this was full of action, heat, intrigue, and emotion.  I actually exchanged some messages with the author yesterday, since I was having so much fun with this book.  Of course, we all know how I feel about romantic suspense, military romantic suspense and spies, so this was right up my alley.

So, now I’d better get some of my own writing done.  I started something that just popped in my head this morning, and I’d like to flesh it out some more.  I have no idea where it came from or if it connects to anything else, but I figure I’d better get it from the paper (I know!  I actually wrote it out longhand!) into the computer.  Wish me luck.

Wow, What a Fabulous Series!

ABSOLUTION, COVER OF DARKNESS, Kaylea Cross, military romantic suspense, NO TURNING BACK, OUT OF HER LEAGUE, RELENTLESS, Romantic Suspense

This week I read an entire series start to finish.  Kaylea Cross’s Suspense series started with OUT OF HER LEAGUE, the story of Christa Bailey, an Olympic-caliber softball player and Rayne Hutchinson, an ERT officer (pretty much a SWAT sniper).  Christa has had a thing for Rayne since she met him, but hasn’t acted on it because of a horrible breakup and the belief that Rayne’s a player.  When she becomes the obsession of a serial killer, Rayne steps in.  There were some hairy situations here, and a fabulous climatic ending, but oh, my friends, this book is just the beginning of a great series. This is one of those series that seems like it’s one big story shown through different perspectives, especially from books two through five.  I’d finish one and just start the next one, it was that engrossing…  Hence five books in, oh, four days.

Next is COVER OF DARKNESS.  This one centers on Bryn, the social worker best friend of Rayne who also happens to be the the daughter of a high-ranking Lebanese politician.  Bryn is in Beirut visiting her father when a terrorist’s bomb blows  up an embassy party and she and her father are kidnapped.  Who saves them but a SEAL Team, headed by Declan “Dec” McCabe.  Dec and his SEALs get them out, and it turns out her best friend’s father is a CIA operative who wants to use Bryn as bait to catch a major terrorist.  Dec doesn’t want Bryn to do it, but signs on to protect her.

The third book, NO TURNING BACK picks up right where COVER OF DARKNESS left off, with CIA communications specialist, Samarra “Sam” Wallace running for her life, unsure of whom she can trust.  She chooses Ben Sinclair, a former Army Ranger who she has felt a strong connection with since meeting him…  Okay, yeah, an attraction.  When the operations keep going sideways, Ben wants to trust her, but isn’t sure if he can- even if his feelings for her are overwhelming.

Next is Rhys Sinclair, Ben’s fraternal twin brother.  Former Delta force, Rhys suffered a major injury in the previous book, and was saved by Sam’s sister-like cousin, Dr. Neveah Adams.  Their book, RELENTLESS, is probably my favorite of the series.  I’m not sure if it’s because I love the tall, dark, handsome and dangerous stoic hero or what, but I loved this book.  Unfortunately, I can’t tell you too much about it because it gives away a lot, and you know how I hate that.

Finally, Luke Hutchinson gets his own book with the series closer and the most heart-wrenching of the series in ABSOLUTION.  His and Emily’s story has been told throughout the entire series, and was done beautifully here.  Of course, telling you about it will tell you too much, but I highly recommend this series.  I think I love the last two books the most because as you read this series, you become more and more attached to the characters and engrossed in their stories.

So, now I’m on a military romantic suspense kick.  Anyone have any suggestions for me on what to read next?  I just downloaded the first TALL, DARK & DANGEROUS bundle by Suzanne Brockman, and will be starting that soon, but I (and my serious addiction) are open to suggestions!  And a big ol’ *Thank You!!* to my virtual girlfriends over on the I-Team facebook page for turning me onto some new writers.  I hadn’t heard of Kaylea Cross before, but now I can’t wait for more.

TTFN!

A LOT LIKE LOVE, CUTTING LOOSE, Elle Kennedy, Julie James, Norah Wilson, Romantic Suspense, SILENT WATCH, Tara Janzen, THE MERZETTI EFFECT

Life has been, as Regin would say, cray-cray lately, so I haven’t been updating as often as I’d like. I have been reading, though (Kindles can go anywhere, right?) and have been on a romantic suspense kick lately (likely because of my friends at the I-Team on Facebook).  What’s not to like about kick-ass women, badass men and hot sex?

So…. reaching back into my memory bank, let’s see what I’ve been reading…

SILENT WATCH by Elle Kennedy centers on an FBI agent, Blake and the victim of a serial killer, Sam who lived through the attack.  Blake and his partner feel that Sam can get through to the only other survivor and help them catch the killer, so they bring her out of hiding.  Of course, everything goes sideways (how suspenseful would it be otherwise, right?) and Blake has to protect Sam as he tries not to fall in love with her.  This was a fast read, and a departure for Elle that I very much enjoyed.

After  hearing about Tara Janzen, I popped over to Amazon and found one in my recommendations, CUTTING LOOSE.  This is the eighth in a series, and although now I want to read them all, it wasn’t a hindrance to me as a reader coming in so late in the game.  Our hero, Zach has been deep undercover for the CIA for eight years and now finds himself mixed up in an international game of espionage because of a tiny item with incredibly sensitive information encoded in it that happens to be in the possession of a beautiful, sharp-shooting, Montana born and bred, New Mexican school teacher, Lily.  What’s supposed to be an easy in-and-out job of retrieval turns out to be a protect and flee situation with people from all over hot on their tail.  Of course, being a romantic suspense, there’s no question the two will fall for one another, but it is a fun ride through twists and turns to get there.

Next, we have A LOT LIKE LOVE by Julie James.  This one comes after SOMETHING ABOUT YOU and focuses on Nick McCall, an FBI Agent in the Chicago office specializing in undercover work.  It had been almost a year since I read SOMETHING ABOUT YOU, and I think A LOT LIKE LOVE stands alone without any troubles (you *should* read SOMETHING ABOUT YOU, though, it’s great).  Okay, so back the story…  Nick gets drawn into an open investigation as a consultant for a junior agent but ends up right in the middle, posing as heiress and wine store owner Jordan Rhodes’ boyfriend in order to plant listening devices in the office of a known associate to a big baddie.  What’s supposed to be a one-night deal ends up lasting weeks and the fake relationship grows.  There are great characters, snappy dialog and I feel like I’ve learned about wine (bonus!).  I’ve read all four of Julie James’ books and I really, really hope there’s more to come 🙂

And now, the Vampire Doctor.  I don’t typically read vampires, honestly- I used to, but then grew tired of the repetitiveness of the genre.  This book however, was anything but more of the same and I’m really hoping the sequel that was teased at the end comes out soon.  So, what the heck am I talking about?  THE MERZETTI EFFECT by Norah Wilson.  This book centers on Dr. Delano Bowen, a doctor researching the viral genetic mutation of vampirism, and Ainsley Crawford, an ER nurse who ends up becoming his research partner and so much more.  There’s a lot I could tell you that might just be too spoiler-ish, so I won’t, but I’ll tell you this: I love this new take on vampirism and am looking forward to more of the series.

Well, now I’m off to finish Chapter 6 of Speeding before I have to get ready and go to work (yay late days!).  Happy reading!

BREAKING POINT, EDGE OF SIGHT, EXTREME EXPOSURE, FACE OF DANGER, Guardian Angelinos, HARD EVIDENCE, I-Team, NAKED EDGE, Pamela Clare, Romantic Suspense, Roxanne St. Claire, SHIVER OF FEAR, UNLAWFUL CONTACT

Well, it’s been a while since I posted. Work as been crazy busy and life has just been rolling along. I submitted Chapter 5 of Speeding and have a short story I am almost completed that I am hoping will be included in an anthology. Wish me luck (I’m a touch out of my depth with the theme, so let’s hope I wrote something compelling).

I have also been reading (surprise!), and let me tell you, I’ve read some great books lately. First was the whole series so far of Roxanne St. Claire’s GUARDIAN ANGELINO series. First is EDGE OF SIGHT, starring a wounded hero, Zach Angelino and the love of his life he walked away from three years before, Samantha. Second is SHIVER OF FEAR featuring former FBI agent and Angelino cousin Marc Rossi and ties in very nicely to the the previous story. Third is my personal favorite, FACE OF DANGER. This one revolves around Zach’s funky twin sister Vivi and her perfect match in her polar opposite, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Colton Lang. The series is fun, suspenseful and I hope there are more to come. I am a fan of romantic suspense, and I am now a big Roxanne St. Claire fan.

May 3rd was the release of the the fifth Pamela Clare’s I-Team series which I adore. The entire series is absolute gold, and this one, BREAKING POINT is no exception. I love this series, centering around strong women with integrity, writing about important issues that without fail put them in grave danger. Of course, these women deserve great men. Pamela writes A-MAZ-ING heroes and Zach McBride is another sexy badass to add to the collection. If you haven’t read the I-Team series, you’re missing out on some of the best romantic suspense out there. The series in order: EXTREME EXPOSURE, HARD EVIDENCE, UNLAWFUL CONDUCT, NAKED EDGE, and BREAKING POINT. I will leave you with this caveat- once you start, you won’t stop! (And, they are much lower in calories than Pringles!)

Well, I’d better get back to my short story. Hopefully I’ll be back here sooner than later!
