4 star review, book review, Caleb Everett, Dylan and Cassidy, Fight For Me, Live For Me, Reviewing Vixens, The Everetts of Tyler

I’m beginning to think this book is pretty good.  I know that sounds silly, but every time you put something out there, you never know what others will think.

Reviewing Vixens reviewed Fight For Me this week, and gave Dylan and Cassidy’s story 4 Whips and 4 Kisses, saying, “It’s a well written suspense with romance around every corner, the friction of our two main characters along with the looming threat hanging over everyone made an excellent read.”

The full review is here:

So now, I’m moving on to Caleb’s story, Live For Me, and since I missed yesterday’s Sunday Six, a snippet!

Blowing out a breath, he rushed to the couch to find Georgia pale and curled in a fetal position, her brow slick with sweat. “Where does it hurt, sweetheart?”

“Tummy,” she answered, her little voice tired.

“I’m Dr. E, and I’m gonna make you all better. Is that okay with you?”

“E-I-E-I-O,” she sang softly.

Janet at Sugar and Spice Reviews reviewed both Dance With Me and Fight For Me (Five stars apiece!) and both books are featured over there (you know the drill, just click the link).

I’m amazed by all the reviews (no, really, I’m not fishing here, I swear).  My favorite parts of each review…

You can’t help but fall in love with Katerina and Mason. The secondary characters help develop the story and really draw you into their world.

Their passion for each other just leap off every page.  And what’s not to like about lots of hot, sweaty sex!   The suspense, danger and mystery kept me intrigued till the very end!

So, now between working a million hours this holiday season, moving into our newly purchased house (still waiting for closing, but cross your fingers for us that it’s soon!), and trying to be a half-decent wife and mother, I am also working on Caleb’s book, Live For Me.  And… Since I won’t be doing a post tomorrow, how about a snippet from Book 3?

Her thoughts went to what he had said before she’d rudely fainted. “You’re afraid there’s a bomb?”

He nodded. “It’s possible.”

She felt herself get woozy and slid down the wall to sit on the floor. “I don’t like that idea.”

“I’m not fond of it either.” He knelt in front of her to study her intently, his dark chocolate eyes taking in every inch of her face. “Your pupils are dilated, your breathing erratic. Let’s get you somewhere safe.”

Before she could protest, he’d scooped her up, her arms automatically locking behind his head, her nose finding its way into the crook of his neck. His scent was intoxicating, and she was thankful she could blame her heart rate and breathing on a panic attack. She was safe with him. Safe enough to wallow in the connection with another human—a man no less—her body finally acknowledging that she was a woman after years of being nothing.

Fight For Me on The Romance Man!

book review, Fight For Me, The Romance Man

Continuing our streak of phenomenal reviews, Fight For Me is a featured review on The Romance Man!  I know!

The review is there in the link, but I really am dancing around my living room (okay, no, I’m not.  I’m writing a blog post, but still.)

My favorite part of the review by Pat Fordyce: There is mystery, danger, explosions, and gun fights.  We  meet all the Everett’s again, and Mason and Kat are finally setting a date.  Best of all we have two characters who realize how much in love they are, despite their efforts to make it go away.

So, now I’m off to work… Think I’ll be able to concentrate?

4.5 Stars, book review, Fight For Me, Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews, Slick Reads

Fight For Me received an amazing 4.5 star review at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews this week, and I am still more than a little floored.

The full review is there in the link, but here’s the part that made me walk around all day Thursday in a fog.

“Fight For Me is a sultry suspense novel filled with great characters, a superior plot line, smokin’ sex, and impressive dialog. Hayden Braeburn has confirmed with this book that she is an author you should be reading.”

I mean…  Wow.  So, yeah, I worked about a million hours today (or, fine, like 14), but I had to share.  Thank you Guilty Pleasures and Slick Reads for thinking I have a clue about what I’m doing!

Oh, if you’re looking for Fight For Me, click here! Amazon, B&N, All Romance, Smashwords, Kobo

Since it’s Sunday, let’s do Six Sentences, too.

He raised his eyebrows at his brother. “The pleasure is all mine.” Caleb held onto her long enough to watch his brother’s coffee eyes heat. With a grin at Mason, he dropped her hand. “So, Katerina is the woman you’ve been mooning over lately?”

Mooning over? Was he that dopey?

A Word About Reviews

book review, reviews

As you’ve seen here, I tend to only write a review when I liked (or loved) a book, but I *do* appreciate a well thought out, honest review before I purchase a book.  One bad review won’t necessarily sway me from reading, but I will invariably choose to read the few one and two star reviews instead of many four and five star reviews before making a purchase.  Why?  Well, because if there are, say, twelve four star and better reviews and four two star and lower reviews, what were those readers seeing?  Was she not in the mood for the genre she chose? (Huge pet peeve–if you didn’t want to read BSDM, or paranormal, or whatnot, WHY did you buy it?!)  Was she put off by something in the story that they other reviewers didn’t mind?  Was she distracted by typos or editing the others overlooked?

Typically if I like the blurb of a story, I will buy it regardless of the reviews (well, unless there are lots and lots of low scores–usually that is for editing and grammar and not for the story itself), but occasionally I’ll find something that turns me off and in the end saves me money.

I will read almost anything–although I have a tendency to stay under the Romance umbrella– but there are certain things that I just can’t slog through. I abhor first person POV, so unless something is incredibly engaging, I won’t bother (I do find it really funny I am writing in first person right now right, though.)  I need at least an HFN ending, although I prefer the hearts and flowers of an HEA, and I really, really don’t like whiny women…  I used to be a “must finish this book” type reader, but now I’m finding if I lose interest, I’ll let myself lose interest and move on.

So, that leads me to my question of the post: Do you read reviews before making a purchase?  And… (ooh, two-parter!) What turns you off when reading reviews, or blurbs, or, well, books?
